The USS Wilkes Barre CL-103
Retired Vice Admiral Jerry H. King helps us on one of our many Memorial Day weekend trips out to Key West Florida to dive the sister ship of one that he had served on in WWII. The USS Wilkes Barre sits in 265′ of shark infested waters. We’ve been able to explore much of her, inside and out.

There is a USS Wilkes that served at World War 2 and as a flagship with the Pollux and the Truxton, The Wilkes ran aground but was able to reverse engine to get off the reef while Truxton and Pollux suffered their end.
My apologize Phil. Just noticed your comment. Temp varies between low 50’s to mid 70’s at depth. It depends on the currents. Surface is in the low 80’s.
Awesome video Johnny. What’s the temp at the bottom there? It must get pretty sticky at the surface in a drysuit that time of year in Florida.
